It happens to everyone: you’re ready to leave and your bike key is gone, broken off in the lock, or the lock is completely jammed. Annoying — but no need to panic. Slotenmaker Lucas helps you quickly and professionally so you lose as little time as possible.

On this page you’ll find why bike locks are so stubborn, what we do for you, and how you get your bike back safely and without damage.

Why a bike lock usually can’t be opened damage-free

Bike locks are made of hardened steel and usually don’t have a cylinder that can be picked like a door lock. The construction is designed to stop quick theft. Because of this, most locks simply cannot be opened without cutting or snipping.

That’s why we work with professional cutting and snipping tools. We remove the lock in a controlled way so your bike itself is affected as little as possible.

Good to know: some e-bike locks are linked to the battery or alarm system. We isolate these components first so that the electronics remain intact.

What we do for you

  • 1️⃣ We come on-site and assess the situation.
  • 2️⃣ We use specialised tools and a controlled method to remove the lock.
  • 3️⃣ We protect your frame and components during the process so only the lock is sacrificed.
  • 4️⃣ After removal, you can use your bike again immediately.

Do you need an extra chain or U-lock to secure your bike afterwards? We’re happy to think along about a temporary solution.

When should you call?

Call us if:

  • ✅ Your key is lost or broken off in the lock.
  • ✅ The lock no longer turns or is rusted internally.
  • ✅ Your bike is locked on a public location and you need to leave quickly.
  • ✅ You want to secure a shared bike, cargo bike or rental bike as soon as possible.

You can also contact us for insurance files. If needed, we provide a short report with photos of the intervention.

Our workflow (short)

  1. Call us: 0484 57 79 90.
  2. We come to your location as quickly as possible (Ghent & region).
  3. Safe, professional cutting work so your bike does not get unnecessary damage.
  4. Follow-up and advice: tips to avoid the same problem in future (spare key, lock type, mounting).

Transparent pricing: you know the cost of the intervention in advance. No surprises afterwards.

Safety first

We advise against trying to force the lock yourself with heavy tools. Cutting or forcing it yourself increases the risk of damage to your bike and can be dangerous. It’s better to leave it to a professional.

Still want to try a DIY solution? Then at least wear solid gloves, place a heat-resistant layer between the lock and frame, and pay attention to fire safety. But in most cases, professional help is actually faster, safer and cheaper.

Prevention is better than cure — quick tips

  • 🔁 Keep a spare key with someone you trust.
  • 🎗️ Use a visible keyring or key cord.
  • 🔒 Consider a different type of lock if you end up locked out often.
  • 🧴 Maintain your lock with lubricant against rust and seizing.
  • 📸 Take a photo of the key number so you can quickly request a replacement key.

Not sure which lock is suitable? We can advise you on secure combinations of ring, chain and folding locks.
